TerraHawk Brochure Design Folding and Die Cut Detail

The folks over at TerraHawk asked us to design another promotional piece for them. They needed simple piece than can fit in a standard-sized envelope and serve as a mailer as well as a hand-out. After a brief conversation regarding the effectiveness of the "standard trifold" brochure, we decided to try something clever that would create a lasting impression for the reader...something that to create an "Aha!" moment.

After kicking around some ideas regarding folds and cuts and photography, we arrived at a relatively simple solution to use a single fold and a single die cut to create a fun little game of "before and after" out of the MUST's primary function, a surveillance capsule that extends from the top of the vehicle. By creating a cut that follows the top of the capsule and using it as a tab to hold the fold shut, we create a "before" version of the photo, with the capsule stowed in the vehicle.

The end result of the simple design trick is a surprising bit of interaction with the piece and, by extension, the product itself.

Perhaps the best part of this project is that, whereas the last project we did for TerraHawk was an exercise in speed-solving a problem and making a clear and reasoned presentation, with this one we got to demonstrate the value of creativity. While it adheres to the aesthetic we established for the last project, it adds a little emotive touchstone that makes the piece, although much smaller (going from 16 pages to 2), much more powerful.
