Seth's 'blog doesn't have comments (which, I can't blame him for, ours doesn't either) so I am left little recourse than to write about his writings on our blog...so here we go again:

Seth's got a short entry today about "giving in early," that is a principal designers have long been telling stories about.

The story as it was told to me goes as follows:

An Art Director at an ad agency is showing a junior designer the ropes and preparing mechanicals to show the client for approval. Just as they're going to snap the photo the Art Director grabs the art so that his thumb is in the shot...not in a way that ruins the art or obscures anything, just enough so that his thumb is visible in the margin.

When he shows it to the client he looks at it and says, "For crying out loud, is that your thumb? It's fine except for that damn thumb. Get that out of there and it's approved."

On the way back to their offices the Jr. Designer asks, "You knew he was going to tell you to get your thumb out of there, so why didn't you reshoot it before we showed it to him?"

The Art Director answered, "If I hadn't put my thumb in there he would have had us change something important."
